I didn’t say it you I don’t even know iof you speak Franglais. I said to my imagined new arrival in the English village.
It’s “strange” to you, not the locals, so let them at it for goodness sakes.

I remember twenty years ago Chris when we first bought the house we’d sit on the balcony and listen to them mooching in the garden. The little marcassins were cute, and delicious . It was all very nice. But now I understand the damage they do.
There’s an epidemic of wild boar all over the World, not just here but in the US and even Australia. The hunters here do their bit, but it’s not enough. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was organised culling in due course.
There’s a poison, Hoggone®, that doesn’t affect other animals but that blocks pig’s red blood cells from transporting oxygen. When fed it, some time later they feel a bit sleepy, lie down and never get up. I wouldn’t be surprised if it isn’t in use here, under the counter, already.
I’ve friends that hunt Chris, and there’s nothing boozy about how they hunt. I’m sure that may not be the case everywhere, but certainly around me the hunts are very professional. It’s a very dangerous pastime. The boars are dangerous, one ripped open a friend’s dog recently, and the guns are dangerous. Being four sheets to the wind would be a mugs game. Now, afterwards in the bar, that’s another matter
@John_Scully Stop. If you did not say it to me why put it in a post. Please stop digging. It is not strange to me at all, just a comment on a forum. I have let them to it but that does not mean I cannot say what I think does it?
There are also plenty of boozy hunters out here, not at all professional, more like a free for all. Plenty of people have been killed already this season in France
Fair comment, but I expect it varies.
Goodness, you do come out with some bullshit @flobil Now you’re calling me a liar, if I wanted to tell you to sod off I would, and calling hunters drunks and attributing, without any evidence, tragic accidents to alcohol. And to top it off you’re telling me to stop digging
It’s enough to make a left leaning Guardian reader’s blood boil
I feel the need for a Recipe…
Bolognaise tonight… with lots of garlic to keep the vampires and troubled souls at bay…
Thread mutes now @John_Scully That is far too rude and offensive to take any more of your bullshit as you say
That’s a first, muting one’s own thread
No actually. I’ve had to do it in the past when I’ve watched my own thread turn vicious. Sad.
A pity.
Same here. They do things properly and with respect for the local population. We must be lucky from what some people say.
Hunting and Hunters… it’s like Drivers and Speeding… there are all sorts… most behave properly but, sadly, not all.
shortly after the new laws came in… we came across an “unmarked” chasse… no warning signs, nuffink…
one call to the Maire was all it took… and an apologetic hunter rushed to get the signs in place… and they seem to have got into the good habit nowadays…
Following on from the bullshit accusations and “Little Britain” attitude expressed by @flobil, I felt compelled to pop down (any excuse) to my local “chasseurs” bar and enquired how seriously they take the ban on alcohol before and when hunting. I really did . I enquired extensively and they take safety very, very seriously and the penalties for not doing so are severe.
The regulations are strict, but I’m less sure about the severity of the penalties. In both the recent fatal shootings of non-chasseur locals around here several safety measures had been ignored yet those involved got off very lightly.
I recognise the necessity of maintaining a check on sanglier and deer populations, but I’d argue that many hunts, or individual hunters continue to ignore recent laws that are aimed at minimising accidents. In addition we’re still seeing fatal accidents where hunters aren’t following longstanding basic safety regs - in the last month two have been killed tripping up while walking with a loaded gun.
Accidents/deaths occur when people ignore rules…
let’s face it… many folk reckon rules/laws are there to be disregarded…
we hear it, we read it on forums and as we chat amongst friends.
I am surprised that the penalties are light if a blatant transgression of rules has been proved. If I was to fail to stop at a Stop sign and killed someone as a result, I would expect to go to gaol, or is that not the case?
Made mine yesterday… getting cold around here and a pot of ‘Ragu’ will do Spag Bol tonight and a Lasagne for the freezer…
I recall being struck when reading the French Senate report into chasse safety a year or two back, that the penalties for shooting and killing somebody during
a chasse are remarkably light.
I think the approach has been that generally the authorities are dealing with first time ‘offenders’, with no ‘previous’, and who pose little risk to the community or themselves provided a) their gun is immediately confiscated and b) their license is rescinded for (often) 5 years. Any custodial sentences imposed are usually suspended. This light touch approach is on the assumption that the chasseurs haven’t also been drinking, that there was a proper safety briefing beforehand etc. The field master responsible for each chasse is treated the same way as if he had also shot the victim.
The Senate did note that the perception amongst the general public was that there was a certain impunity for offenders, but the magistrates pushed back, citing the above ‘penalties’ …
Of no personal interest, you understand, but wouldn’t that be a perfect way to get rid of someone? Just join the chasse.
Duchars IPA is a fine beverage.
