What dry dog food available in France do you recommend?

As I was feeding my pups this morning, the thought popped into my head: what brand/brands of dry dog food do people feed their dogs in France? I blend in some dried liver chunks and at night they get a few chicken hearts, as well.

But for the “main dish”, what French or European dog food(s) have worked for you?

good grief… how many meals a day do they get ??

We use Bab’in as it is a French product with the duck coming from the south west as a by product of the dusk industry. Which we disapprove of, but we disapprove more of wasting stuff. And the proportion of fillers in their croquettes is lower than other brands.

Many of the big brands use imported products. Royal Canin for example has a major factory in China and although also factories in France there is no absolute guarantee that everything is sourced here. However, in their favour they have recently said they will stop sponsoring any activities associated with hunting.

And we get it via our dog club, so very good value.

I use Zooplus as they have a very wide range of brands, some quite specialist, and their online service is excellent.
Bertie is 15 and should be on a renal diet, which he refuses to eat. The nearest I can get is Edgar and Cooper Senior croquettes, which he enjoys.
In the past I’ve also bought Burns senior products, James Wellbeloved and Wolf of Wilderness.

Bwahaha! The get a small bowl for brekky, then a bigger bowl (1 cup for the big dog, 3/4 for the smaller one) for “dîner”. THat’s when they get some of the fancee kibble sprinkled in.

We have been enjoying the croquettes by Edgard & Cooper from Albert le Chien website, who offer excellent service, but now on your recommendation we’ll be giving the ducks a try.

I do like the “we” have been enjoying! I don’t know the one you are using, but compare the ingredients list with the Bab’in adulte canard to see how it measures up. It is expensive on their website, but we get 20g sacks from dog club for €58? I’ve only just realised what a good deal that it - well worth the annual dog club subscription .

I’m just looking into how to travel to France with my two golden retrievers this next year. crate training begins in a bout two months

My 2 get one meal a day, at 6pm prompt. A tin of sardines each, in either tomato sauce or sunflower oil, which their servant opens, and 2 ladles of Friskies Senior croquettes.
If you wonder why the 18kgs Setter gets the same amount as the 38kgs Beauceron, it is because she demands it and always finishes it without putting on an ounce of weight (sorry @Mik_Bennett just my little joke ), and the Beaucie has had the same for 4 years without losing any.

They both sit and wait after the bowls, 1 metre apart, are put down until the command ‘bon appetit’ is given for them to advance. A hand signal is needed as well for the deaf Setter. Before the Setter arrived, I tested Jules’ obedience and control by walking behind him before giving him the command and, can even go out of the room and shout it from there. He never budges 'till it comes. Can’t do that now because of the Setter’s affliction but it was only a test of his resistance to temptation that I wanted to prove.

After finishing they get a pain grille biscuit each or a knob of stale bread to clean their teeth.

Both of them at 14 and 10 respectively are very active and run like the wind in the field. :joy:

Our pooch has a very delicate stomach. He used to have some recommended by his vet back in the UK - it’s been so long now that I’ve forgotten then brand. When we moved here we showed the local pet store the packaging and they recommended this brand and specifically this flavour…

Charlie likes them, his poop is solid and he doesn’t fart.

If you are bringing your dogs from UK I heartily recommend arriving via the Eurotunnel in your own vehicle. The dogs stay with you in the car for the 30 minute trip.

We took our two this way multiple times with no angst. Just remember to check in at the Dog immigration house before you board and have the dig passports all up to date rabies vaccine wise.

Bon Voyage!

My Shiba Inu developed allergy problems to meat, cereals, rice etc which he loved before that. After two years of tests, trying different foods, the vet put him on a prescription only Hills dog biscuits that were made from potatoes and had all the necessary vitamins andminerals added. It was very expensive, around €100 for a large sack which lasted about three months at the portions allowed but worth every e uro for the difference in his skin which had been covered in sores, scabs and the fur gone in many places. He took about six months to get back to his beautiful fur but that food made all the difference. We think it all came about when we both got wet from walking down a track where a local farmer was spraying crops and the mist went everywhere, I got a bad chest and sore throat and the dog started his scratching.

Alfie is 15 and has had his fair share of dental problems so has less teeth than most. He has never been a big eater and even though he is given 2 meals a day he chooses to graze rather than eat as soon as his meal is presented to him.
He adores corn beef and boiled eggs along with his Netto soft crockettes.
Today is his favourite day as sunday is roast chicken for the 3 of us.

My daughter in the US gives her dogs pumpkin seeds when they have gippy tummies which works well - everything seems to be cinnamon or pumpkin over there especially in Texas.

Our dog, meat no dried stuff with fillers they wouldnt normally eat. Our vet said raw meat diet? No chicken is always cooked. However they also said we must suppliment the cats meat diet with taurine as cats cannot make taurine so must get it from their food and all cat foods must by law have taurine added. I reminded her that meat already has taurine naturally and in exactly the right amount as intended. They looked rather upset at this news.
Watching a program on Purina foods (how do they do that) the utter rubbish used in pet food put me off ever feeding that sort of non natural animal diet to our pets. Pets are getting the same health issues as their owners, diet, quite probably.

Our two refuse dog food, for some reason, and will only eat dried food intended for cats! Fed twice a day plus treats on the rare occasions they behave well when passing other dogs…

We used to buy Royal Canin, but now get Hill’s Vet Essentials + Dental which also helps clean their teeth.

I am not sure if from only eating cat food your dogs will be getting all the nutritional ingredients dogs need. You might like to try a fish/salmon based dog food.

A French company suggestion
