and more to the point, will they be able to keep a government going given the split amongst the parties?
This suggest some depressing options. Not quite down to the Liz Truss level; yet.
The PM needs to be able to create compromises between the disparate political forces. It’s hard to imagine who will be willing and able to take on the task.
Especially when said “disparate forces” are happy to tear down the whole structure if it gives them a personal advantage.
Probably a general election then?
I believe that there would have to be another dissolution before another election could be held. I don’t think that is possible this year. Maybe next year though…
Too long, France cannot go on without a government which functions. Disparate forces or not, something needs to happen. I can see Macron going
Then what? Swivel-eyed loons from both ends of the spectrum.
Probably… again
Yes, a difficulty is that it is a peu pres 30 / 30 / 30. Donc…
He’ll just have to go round France asking everyone till he can find someone who’s prepared to be the next fall guy for a couple of months. I asked my daughter if he’d called her yet but apparently she’s some way down on the list.
A few years ago Belgium thrived when it went for over a year without a working government.
Though, of course, Belgium was only missing one of its many, many governments.
I can only remember the news stories which claimed that the MP’s partners had got together and threatened to withdraw sex if they didn’t go back to work.
Shades of Lysistrata
There has to be at least one year between general elections in France.
What are the odds on this one lasting more than 6 months?
Who will be the next pm of France?
Even after he was named, people were still asking, who will be the next pm of France?
I was mildly pleased that it was Bayrou, his party was the nearest to the LibDems I thought at the time when I was allowed to vote in France.
